William BLACK CHAPTER X


CHAPTER X.

Jane, the ninth child of William Black (who removed from Yorkshire in 1775), and the fourth and youngest daughter of his second wife, was married to John Fawcett, of Sackville, N.B., where they settled and engaged in farming. Their children consisted of three sons and two daughters, viz.: John, Jane, William, George, and Elizabeth.

JOHN married Rebecca Anderson, of Cole's Island, daughter of John Anderson. They had three sons, named Amos, Alfred, and John Edward.

Amos, the last mentioned, John's eldest son, went to the United States, where he settled. His wife's name was Frances Weir. They have four children, named Fred, Hattie, Walter, and William.

Alfred, the second son, also settled in the United States. He married Louise Perce. They had three children. One died when young. The others are named Charles and Winthrop.
John Edward, the third son of the last named John Fawcett, also lived in the United States. He married Emily Weir, sister to his brother Amos' wife. They had two children, named Emily and Edward. John Edward died about 1873, aged 45 years, leaving a widow, who died in 1881.

Rebecca, the wife of John Fawcett, jr., died in 1834. Mr. Fawcett then married Mary Anderson, sister of his first wife, and had by the second marriage one son and six daughters, named Charles, Rebecca Jane, LetitiaAnn, Margaret, Elizabeth, Theresa, and Florence Hibbert.

Charles, the eldest son of the second wife, married Catherine J. Wetmore, of Saint John. They have four children, named Horace J. F., Mabel M., Ella L., and Charles W. Another died when young. He is doing a heavy business in the manufacture of stoves and tinware. His iron foundry is the largest and most complete for stove casting in the lower provinces. The business appears very prosperous.

Rebecca Jane, the eldest daughter of John Fawcett, jr., was married to Thomas Read, son of John Read, of Moncton. They had one son, named William, who died at the age of 16 years. Mr. Read also died, and his widow was married to William W. Johnson, of the United States, where they now reside. They have no children.

Letitia Ann, the second daughter of John Fawcett, jr., was married to Charles Evans. Mr. Evans died, leaving no children. His widow was again married, to Stephen Ayer, of Sackville, N.B. They had four children. One died when young; the others are named, Edgar, Ella, and Allister. Mr. Ayer is doing a large business in the manufacture of harness.

Margaret, the third daughter of John Fawcett, jr., was married to a Mr. Day, of the United States, where they now reside. They have one son, named Eddie.

Elizabeth, the fourth daughter of John Fawcett, jr., was married to Edward M. Ash, of the United States, where they reside. They have a small family of children.

Theresa, another daughter, was married to George E. Ford, who is engaged in mercantile pursuits at Sackville, N.B., the place of his birth. Their children's names are Andrew Hilton, Fred, Lorne, and Denta.

Florence, the youngest daughter, was married to Walter Fowler, of Amherst. They reside at Sackville.

The above named John Fawcett, jr., is particularly ingenious and inventive. He has lived at Amherst, Moncton, and Sackville, where he has for many years resided, and has accumulated valuable property.

JANE, the eldest daughter of the first mentioned John Fawcett, was married to John W., son of James A. Black, of Dorchester. They settled upon a farm at Memramcook. They have four sons. The particulars in respect to their family are given in Chapter XI. in the description of the family of John W., son of James A. Black, who was cousin to his wife.

WILLIAM, the second son of John Fawcett, married Sarah Killam, formerly of Nova Scotia. They lived at Sackville, N.B., a few years, and then purchased a farm at Memramcook, to which they removed. Their children's names are, Sarah Jane, Emily, Elizabeth Ann, Susanna, Sanford, Martin, Isabel, and Clementina. Sarah Jane died in 1856, aged 17 years.

Elizabeth Ann was married to Thomas R. Tuttle, of Moncton. He died in 1880, aged 49. They had four children, William, Ellen, and Arthur. One died when young.
Mrs. Fawcett died in 1858, aged 47 years.

Susanna, daughter of William Fawcett, was married to Willard T. Smith, of Dorchester. They have four children, named William Josiah, Sanford Silas, Lucreta Bell, and Albert Edward. Two others died when young.

Sanford, son of William Fawcett, married Sarah Calhoun, of Hopewell. They have one son, named G. Carey, and one young daughter. They live in Memramcook.
Martin, another son of William Fawcett, married Fanny, daughter of William Smith, of Sackville, N.B. They have one son named Harrison.

Isabel, another daughter of William Fawcett, was married to Clark Takles, of Sussex. They have two children.

Clementina, the youngest daughter of William Fawcett, was married to William Peters, of Richibucto, where they now live. They have one son.

Emily, daughter of William Fawcett, is not married.

William Fawcett married a second wife whose name was Margaret Atkinson, of Fort Lawrence. She had two children, named Alice and Melbourne. On the death of his second wife Mr. Fawcett married a third time.

GEORGE, the youngest son of the first named John Fawcett, died when a young man.
ELIZABETH, the youngest child of John Fawcett, was married to John G. Atkinson, of Fort Lawrence, where he is a prosperous farmer. Mr. Atkinson is a Justice of the Peace. They had five sons and two daughters, named respectively, William W., Charles Clifford, Emma Jane, John Edward, Martin Gay, Hazen, and Annie.

Emma Jane died in 1880, aged 24 years.

John Edward died in 1881, aged 22 years.

William W., the eldest son of John G. Atkinson, married a daughter of John Beharrel, of Amherst Head. They have one son, named Benjamin Smith.
