Philana BELFRY (Jacob, Peter)

born 22 Oct 1811 in Slusser, Niagara, New York. Philana and her brother Philo were twins.  Miss Philana Belfry was married to Robert SMITH who owned a farm of 240 acres at their house in East Gwillimbury. Philana is listed as age 69 on the 1881 census, Robert was listed as age 74. Mr. Smith was an industrious thriving farmer. He died July 1, 1882, and is interned in the Queensville Cemetery. <Mrs. Smith was still alive at the time the book was written in 1888> They had the following children: (all born in York County, Ontario)

  • Joanna SMITH married John HAMILTON.  Joanna is listed as the age of 30 on the 1881 census, and John is listed as being the age of 34.
  • Jacob Belfry SMITH is listed as the age of  32 on the 1881 census.
  • James  SMITH married Elizabeth NELANDS  Their Issue:
    • Sherman Talmage SMITH
    • Joseph Nelands SMITH
  • Arabella  SMITH married Hugh Geddes BROWN  Their Issue:
    • Fred. BROWN
