Christopher Columbus BELFRY  (Jacob, Peter)

born 18 Sep 1817 in Allegany, Genesee, New York. He learned and worked in the Carpenter trade in early life for a time in partnership with brother in-law Mr Aylward. His wife's maiden name was Charlotte CRONE, she was 61 during the 1881 census implying that she was born in <1820> Ontario, her parents lived near the Village of Newmarket. Later he purchased the south half of the Belfry homestead and resided there many years. He sold the farm in 1885 <still alive in 1888 at the time the book was written> and became a resident of Newmarket, and was a member of the council <ca 1888> He is a Justice of the Peace in her Majesty's Service.  They had the following three daughters:

  • Sarah BELFRY born <1845> in Ontario and was 36 and with her parents during the 1881 census
  • Amelia BELFRY married a Mr. Wm. C. NILES who came from California to be married. Amelia is listed as age 30 and William as 31 on the California 1880 census.
  • Frances BELFRY married a Mr. Wm. GARTLEY , taught school before her marriage. Their Issue:
    • Rose GARTLEY
    • Florence GARTLEY
